The five fellowship recipients—all members of the Class of 2023—are dedicated to pursuing careers in social and racial justice.

From helping poultry farmers to making law school and the law more accessible, the projects this year’s fellows are pursuing have the potential to reshape industries, communities, and lives.

Offered by Columbia Law’s Human Rights Institute and Office of Graduate Degree Programs, the fellowships are awarded annually to LL.M. students committed to battling injustice around the world.

The Columbia Law School student will provide legal representation and medical advocacy to detained immigrants.

The Academic Scholars Program, launched last spring, identifies and provides academic and financial support for admitted and current J.D. candidates with strong potential and the ambition to become law professors.

The Law School’s Jagdish Bhagwati Fellowship, underwritten by the Indian government, supports graduate students specializing in international trade, trade law, public interest, and human rights. 2020–2021 recipient Mishra is devoting his year at Columbia Law to developing his expertise in multilateral trade treaties and international trade dispute settlement.
