The Australian lawyer wanted a career in academia. As a student in Columbia Law’s J.S.D. program, he produced original scholarship on elder abuse and inheritance disputes that paved the way to a tenured position at the University of Sydney Law School.

A practicing lawyer in Nigeria, Ikeakanam spent his LL.M. year immersed in U.S. corporate law and taking advantage of experiential learning opportunities to put theory into practice.

Established in 2015, the need-based scholarship is awarded annually to a Columbia Law School LL.M. student, with priority consideration given to students who are from Africa, Latin America, Asia, and Eastern Europe and demonstrate academic success and promise.
