Harlan Fiske Stone Professor of Constitutional Law

Henry Paul Monaghan is the Harlan Fiske Stone Professor of Constitutional Law at Columbia Law School.

He has helped generations of jurists, scholars, and students understand the meaning of the U.S. Constitution by evaluating the document's perfections while insisting upon its imperfections. Monaghan has long been recognized as one of the nation's leading scholars on constitutional law and federal jurisdiction.

In 2010, Monaghan was awarded the Columbia Law School Medal for Excellence at the Law School’s annual Winter Luncheon.

Monaghan is a member of the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, which is one of the oldest and most prestigious honorary societies and a leading center for policy research in the United States.
