Members of the Columbia Law School LL.M. Class of 2025 have received fellowships that enable them to pursue their LL.M. degree at the Law School and expand their expertise in their chosen fields.

Cheers of pride and tears of joy greeted J.D., LL.M., E.LL.M., and J.S.D. students, who—along with their families and friends—celebrated graduation at the Law School’s 2025 Class Day ceremony, featuring a keynote address by former Montana Governor Steve Bullock ’94.

New school, new friends, new dean: Members of the J.D. Class of 2027 and the LL.M. Class of 2025 met Dean Daniel Abebe and each other at orientation activities featuring welcome speeches, information sessions, and plenty of food. 

The annual fellowships, supported by the government of India, are named in honor of University Professor Jagdish Bhagwati, the economist and trade theorist, and support LL.M. students.

Columbia Law School graduates have received prestigious fellowships that enable them to launch their public interest careers and contribute to the work of public service organizations.

The fellowships from Columbia Law’s Human Rights Institute and Office of Graduate Degree Programs are awarded annually to LL.M. students with experience in human rights work and a commitment to a career in the field.

The Australian lawyer wanted a career in academia. As a student in Columbia Law’s J.S.D. program, he produced original scholarship on elder abuse and inheritance disputes that paved the way to a tenured position at the University of Sydney Law School.

A practicing lawyer in Nigeria, Ikeakanam spent his LL.M. year immersed in U.S. corporate law and taking advantage of experiential learning opportunities to put theory into practice.

The fellowships, supported by the government of India, are named in honor of University Professor Jagdish Bhagwati, the influential trade theorist, and a cohort of fellows is chosen annually.
