Section Description
The Legal Methods course is unique to Columbia Law School. Originally introduced in 1944, Legal Methods has evolved over time to reflect the changing nature of the legal profession and society.
The course is an introduction to legal institutions, theories, and practices. It explores the history and theories of American law. It provides the skills necessary to understand the sources, forms, and development of legal doctrine, to analyze and synthesize judicial precedents, to interpret statutes, and to engage in legal reasoning.
