December 12, 2007 (NEW YORK) – When the New York Stock Exchange and the Euronext market merged last winter it exemplified a trend in the globalization of financial markets. That trend, and others, will be discussed at the Cross Border Securities Market Mergers Conference presented jointly by Columbia Law School and Columbia Business School on December 19. Christopher Cox, Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will give the keynote address.
Four panels of experts including regulators, government officials, investment bankers, exchange officials, practicing lawyers and leading law and finance academics will be convened to address the forces driving mergers, the implications for the U.S. and world economies, and the challenges to capital market regulation.
Columbia Law professors Meyer Eisenberg, Merritt B. Fox, Lawrence Glosten and Harvey J. Goldschmid, a former SEC commissioner, organized the event.
