Section Description
Intensive Seminar on Ethics in the Federal Government (2 graded academic credit). Meets for three (3) hours daily, for one week at the beginning of the semester and one week at the end of the semester, during exam week, and is a required program component for students participating in the full-semester Externship on the Federal Government in Washington, DC.
This two-week intensive seminar will invite students to explore the unique challenges and responsibilities of ethical law practice in the Federal Government. Topics will include: providing legal advice, identifying attorney-client relationships and working with political clients, statutory and other sources of ethical rules for federal employees, transition between government and related private work, and the professional identity of government attorneys. The course will consider in-depth several key case studies and will include at least one guest panel discussion.
Evaluation will be made through a combination of writings and class participation (see syllabus for details).
This course satisfies the Professional Responsibility requirement.
