How to Bring Out the Best in Nonprofits With David M. Schizer

In his book How to Save the World in Six (Not So Easy) Steps, the Columbia Law professor and dean emeritus offers a compendium of wisdom and practical advice for nonprofits to succeed.

The missions of nonprofits can be inspiring, but their inefficiency and inertia can be heartbreaking, says David M. Schizer, Harvey R. Miller Professor Law and Economics and dean emeritus at Columbia Law School. That’s why he wrote How to Save the World in Six (Not So Easy) Steps, which draws on his own experiences leading nonprofit organizations along with interviews conducted with more than two dozen nonprofit leaders, including many Columbia Law alumni.

Schizer says the book is not only for nonprofit executives but also for board members, staffers, and donors.  “There are 1.5 million nonprofits in the United States, and they touch every aspect of our lives,” he says. “So we need to know how to make sure they're effective.”
