Section 001 Information

Instructor

Clarisa Long Clarisa Long Max Mendel Shaye Professor of Intellectual Property Law

Section Description

This course will explore a subset of the ever-burgeoning number of statutes and regulations at the U.S. federal and state level that give legal actors varying amounts of control over bundles of information that are usually, but not always, personal to an individual in some sense -- known in the field as Personally Identifiable Information ("PII"). The course will examine various governance mechanisms involved in controlling PII in the U.S. -- such as statutory, regulatory, administrative, common law, and industry-based self-governance approaches -- with an emphasis on consumer data protection.
