Section Description
***This class is for ELLM students only*** The Negotiation and Mediation for Law Practice Workshop provides students an experiential introduction to the theory and practice of both negotiation and mediation in a highly interactive, practice-oriented setting. Students will cover foundational negotiation principles including types of bargaining, negotiation psychology, value creation, and ethics. Students will also gain critical mediation skills including active listening, goal preparation, empathy building, and summarizing techniques. Additionally, students will integrate negotiation and mediation theories and practice their skills during immersive exercises designed to reinforce fundamental and advanced principles. Students will be expected to prepare for and take part in role plays, to keep a frequent journal in which they analyze their classroom experiences, and to participate in a final project comprising an extended negotiation and a written analysis of that negotiation.
