Section Description
This course explores the impact of the Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson’s Women’s Health Organization on the future of health justice and reproductive rights in the United States. Using case studies and classroom exercises, we will study, among other things, the decision’s implications for women’s healthcare; federalism and the interaction of federal and state abortion and healthcare law; pharmaceutical regulation; and reproductive rights litigation. Students will acquire an understanding of legal, policy and practical aspects of healthcare law and social justice in the field of reproductive care. Students should come to class prepared to actively debate sensitive topics from an array of perspectives. To receive credit, students will be required to submit short response papers assigned at the end of each class. They will also be required to actively participate in a series of in-class, interactive simulations designed to illustrate key concepts and themes of the course.
