Section Description

This course will examine both the theory and practice of patent law. It will explore the structure of this form of intellectual property protection, the relationship between information disclosure and legal protection, and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) as an administrative agency. We will focus not only on the principal rules that make up patent law, but also on the policies underlying these rules.

Registration is limited to upperclass law school students at Columbia Law School only.

Course is closed to students who have previously taken S. Advanced Patents (LAW -L8055) or S. Patent Litigation (LAW -L8050). Registration is limited to upperclass law school students at Columbia Law School only. Enrollment is capped at 60 students.
