Section Description

Columbia Law School announced the establishment of the International Claims and Reparations Project (ICRP) to examine and propose legal frameworks for the management of international claims and reparations, particularly in relation to Russia’s armed conflict against Ukraine. The curriculum will cover the history and evolution of reparations, legal foundations for the right to reparation, the rise of the individual as a right holder under international law, forms of reparation, different mechanisms and practical issues in administering and processing mass claims, and the most prominent international claims commissions, including the Iran-US Claims Tribunal, the United Nations Compensation
Commission, and the Eritrea-Ethiopia Claims Commission. This course will allow students to participate in the work of the ICRP, giving them a theoretical and practical perspective on one of the most salient issues in international law today. Participants will conduct guided research on cutting-edge issues for
the ICRP.
