Professor Michael Graetz to Share Expertise on the Economy and the Election

New York, Oct. 2, 2012—Leading international tax law expert Michael Graetz, Columbia Alumni Professor of Tax Law, Wilbur H. Friedman Professor of Tax Law, will offer his insights and opinions on the economy and the election during a panel discussion Wed., Oct. 10 at 7:30 p.m. EDT.
Graetz will appear along with Yale University President Richard C. Levin, the Frederick William Beinecke Professor of Economics, who will moderate the event; Alan Auerbach, the Robert D. Burch Professor of Law and Economics at the University of California-Berkeley and director of the Burch Center for Tax Policy and Public Finance; and Amanda Kowalski, assistant professor at Yale, faculty research fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research, and an expert on health policy.
These distinguished scholars will discuss taxes, spending, and the economics of healthcare at the live event, “The Economy and the Election” held at Yale University, and also broadcast live online.
Before joining Columbia, Graetz had been the Justus S. Hotchkiss Professor of Law at Yale Law School since 1986. He has written many books on federal taxation, including a leading law school text, as well as more than 60 articles on a wide range of tax, international taxation, health policy, and social insurance issues. In addition to his teaching career, Graetz has held several positions in the federal government. He was Assistant to the Secretary and Special Counsel for the U.S. Department of the Treasury from January to June in 1992, and he was Deputy Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy at the U.S. Department of the Treasury from January of 1990 to December of 1991.
