Prof. Hemphill Testifies on House Bill

C. Scott Hemphill, Associate Professor of Law, testified before a congressional subcommittee hearing on a bill concerning consumer access to generic drugs.

 

Hemphill, a scholar of intellectual property and antitrust and regulation of industry, gave testimony on H.R. 1902, the Protecting Consumer Access to Generic Drugs Act of 2007. He was one of six expert witnesses to appear before the House Committee on Energy and Commerce’s Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade, and Consumer Protection.

 

The bill prohibits brand name drug companies from compensating generic drug companies to delay the entry of a generic drug into the market. Hemphill’s current research examines the interaction between regulatory statutes and the application of intellectual property and antitrust law, with particular attention to pharmaceutical rivalry and patent settlement.
