Millstein Governance Forum Returns to Columbia Law School June 12-13
Leading Corporate Governance Experts Will Discuss Key Issues and Developments in the Capital Markets at 9th Annual Event
New York, June 2, 2014—More than 200 leading institutional investors, corporate directors and executives, regulators, academics, and other corporate governance experts and practitioners will gather at Columbia Law School June 12-13 for the 9th annual Millstein Governance Forum, “The State of Corporate Governance.”
“Our aim is to promote critical debate and robust dialogue on the key issues facing all of us who are engaged in, or affected by, developments in the capital markets,” said Ira M. Millstein, a senior partner at Weil, Gotshal & Manges and chair of the Ira M. Millstein Center for Global Markets and Corporate Ownership, which is presenting the event.
The two-day forum will feature leading experts from the field of corporate governance, including Columbia Law School professors Jeffrey N. Gordon and Robert J. Jackson Jr., faculty co-directors of the Millstein Center; and representatives from leading companies and institutional investors such as Deloitte, Gilt Groupe, Third Point, Pershing Square Capital Management, CalPERS, and many others.
The forum will include three plenary sessions on the state of capital markets, the state of investors, and the state of the corporation. Breakout discussions will focus on a variety of topics of interest, including: the changing strategies of value funds, hedge funds, and private equity firms; board diversity and independent directors; corporate governance developments and enforcement; corporate citizenship; and proxy season updates.
At the Millstein Governance Forum Gala Dinner on June 12, corporate governance professionals under the age of 40 who are making their mark as outstanding analysts, experts, directors, managers, or advocates will be honored with the Rising Stars of Corporate Governance Award. A keynote lunch on June 13 will include a discussion about the relationship between corporate profitability and investor profitability featuring Millstein and Russell L. Carson, co-founder and general partner at Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe.
The Millstein Center for Global Markets and Corporate Ownership conducts timely research on crucial real-world issues. Focusing on the global financial markets, the center studies the changing relationships between investors and corporations, the impact of developments in the market and new investors on corporations and companies, and any possible additional structural or policy changes needed for the full restoration of public trust in the financial and real economy, as well as the long-term impact on corporate governance and performance.
