New York, March 11, 2009 — Hon. L. Priscilla Hall ’73 was named a Justice of the Appellate Division, Second Department, by New York State Governor David Paterson. She has served as an elected justice of the Supreme Court of Kings County since January 1994.
Hall brings to her new position extensive experience in a number of trial courts. She was appointed to the bench in 1986 as a New York City Criminal Court judge. In 1990 she became an acting justice of the Supreme Court of Kings County and then served from 1990 to 1994 as a judge of the New York State Court of Claims. In addition to her position as an elected justice of the Supreme Court of Kings County, she has been the administrative judge of the Criminal Division of the Kings County Supreme Court since February 2008.
After graduating from Columbia Law School in 1973, Hall began her career as a corporate attorney for General Electric. She went on to serve as an assistant district attorney in New York County, inspector general of the New York State Department of Employment, assistant attorney general at the New York State Department of Labor, and inspector general of the New York City Human Resources Administration.
In 2008 Hall began a four-year term as a director of the Columbia Law School Association. She has served as president of the New York State Association of Women Justices, vice-president of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, chair of the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Black Bar Association, and president of the Association of Black Women Attorneys.
Hall received a bachelor of arts from Howard University in 1968 and a master of science from the Columbia University School of Journalism in 1969.
