February 25, 2008 (NEW YORK) – In 2006, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a Global Counterterrorism Strategy, which underscored the importance of respecting human rights in international efforts to combat terrorism. Columbia Law School’s Human Rights Institute and the Center on Global Counterterrorism Cooperation are co-hosting an expert panel on the prospects for implementing human rights into national and regional counter-terrorism efforts, and through civil society advocacy.
 
Two new publications from the Center will be presented: “Handbook on Human Rights Compliance while Countering Terrorism,” by Dr. Alex Conte, and “Human Rights and the Implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy: Hopes and Challenges,” by Eric Rosand, Alistair Millar and Jason Ipe.

The Center on Global Counterterrorism Cooperation is a nonpartisan research and policy institute that for over 15 years has worked to improve internationally coordinated responses to the threat of terrorism.
