Columbia in Paris

Columbia Law School and the Institut d'etudes politiques de Paris (known as Sciences Po) have launched a joint continuing legal education program for members of the legal profession based in France. The inaugural session, whose theme was law and economic globalization, featured five instructors, including Columbia Law School Professors John C. Coffee, Jr., (teaching Mergers and Acquisitions: Actualizing the Practice and The Enforcement of Business Law in the US: Some Predictions for European Business) and George Bermann '75 LL.M., director of the European Legal Studies Center

(teaching Transnational Litigation and International Commercial Arbitration).

Among the other instructors was Hon. Guy Canivet, chief justice of the French Supreme Court. In attendance were French lawyers working abroad, American lawyers practicing in France, and other professionals from the international business community. The seminar examined the evolution of international business law from a transatlantic perspective.
