Columbia Law School's Kernochan Center for Law, Media, and the Arts Honored for Pro Bono Work
Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts Recognizes Kernochan Center for Its Dedication to Pro Bono Legal Services and Clinical Education
New York, July 22, 2013—Columbia Law School’s Kernochan Center for Law, Media, and the Arts was honored by Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts (VLA) earlier this summer for more than three decades of pro bono work with the nonprofit’s artist and arts organization clients.
The partnership between the Kernochan Center and VLA began in 1978. Through the Center’s Arts Law Externship, Columbia Law School students gain practical experience in intellectual property, entertainment, and nonprofit law as they assist staff attorneys at VLA in their representation of artists and nonprofit arts organizations. VLA recognized the Kernochan Center and Columbia Law School for their dedication to pro bono legal services and clinical education at its Annual Summer Benefit and Art Sale on June 12.
