Columbia Law School to Hold 150th Graduation Ceremony on May 16, 2011

George W. Madison ’80, general counsel of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, will deliver the keynote address at Columbia Law School’s graduation, May 16, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the South Lawn of Columbia University.
 
Madison was nominated to be the 30th general counsel of the Department of the Treasury by President Obama on April 20, 2009. He was confirmed unanimously by the Senate and sworn into office on Sept. 9, 2009. As general counsel, Madison serves as the chief law officer of the department and as a senior policy advisor to the secretary of the Treasury.
 
The class of 2011 consists of approximately 725 students, including J.D., LL.M., and J.S.D. degree candidates. Students in the J.D. class began their legal studies during Columbia Law School’s sesquicentennial year in 2008, and hail from 39 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and 22 countries.
