Catherine Albisa '89 Named to New York City Commission on Human Rights
New York, November 24, 2014—Catherine Albisa ’89, executive director and co-founder of the National Economic and Social Rights Initiative, has been appointed by New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio to serve as one of eight commissioners on the city’s Commission on Human Rights.
The commission is charged with enforcing New York City’s Human Rights Law, one of the most comprehensive civil rights laws in the nation.
Albisa, a 1989 graduate of Columbia Law School, is a constitutional and human rights lawyer with a background in the right to health. She previously directed the Human Rights in the U.S. Program at the Center for Economic and Social Rights and served as associate director of the Law School’s Human Rights Institute. She also has served as a board chair of the Center for Constitutional Rights.
