Motivation: “My exposure to human trafficking cases in refugee camps in Iraq and Jordan led me to seek positions where I could have an impact by significantly reducing transnational crime and promoting human rights around the world. This led to my work with Born Free USA on wildlife crime, which deepened my conviction that transnational crime and the violation of human rights are intricately connected. Wildlife traffickers are often involved in drug, human, and weapons trafficking; they use similar routes and methods, and the proceeds of their crimes are used as a source of income to fuel terrorist activities. These facts strengthened my resolve to tackle human trafficking by pursuing this fellowship.”
Goals: “My fellowship with Liberty Shared will allow me to acquire new skills, including litigation and case management, and consolidate my knowledge of transnational crime. The skills I have gained through my work against wildlife trafficking combined with my legal background in criminal law and human rights will be a strong asset to the Liberty Shared legal department.”
