Steven M. Statsinger is a judge on the New York City Criminal Court, appointed by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg in 2013. Before taking the bench, he served as senior trial counsel and training director at Federal Defenders of New York, Inc., the federal public defender’s office for the Southern District of New York. He worked there for more than 19 years.
In addition to teaching at Columbia Law School, Statsinger was an adjunct professor at New York University’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies from 1990 to 2012. His publications include two chapters in Practice Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, Aspen Publishers Inc., Practice Commentaries, NITA Press, and Habeas Corpus Laws and Practice Commentaries, FRCrP, NITA Press.
He holds a J.D. from Columbia Law School and a B.S. in psychology from Brown University.
