The Future of Dispute Resolution: A Practice Perspective

Nov 2025

Guest Lecture with Professor Peter Sester

The landscape of cross-border dispute resolution is evolving alongside the growth of international business and investment. This lecture will examine how emerging global economic centers are transforming the way cross-border disputes are managed and resolved.

While New York and London remain key jurisdictions, new hubs such as Singapore, Hong Kong, the Emirates, São Paulo, and leading Indian and African cities are gaining influence. The expanding business and investment ties among BRICS countries, most of which are civil law jurisdictions, are also shaping the future of dispute resolution—affecting choices of law, arbitral seats, counsel, and arbitrators.

The session will discuss the opportunities and challenges these developments present, particularly for young lawyers seeking to build international careers. As growing markets open new pathways for practice, understanding these shifts will be essential for staying ahead in an increasingly globalized legal profession.

Non-Pizza lunch will be provided. This event will take place on November 17th, in JG 105 from 12:10-1pm.
