The 2026-27 Dean Acheson Legal Scholar Program at the Court of Justice of the European Union
What:
Dean Acheson Legal Scholar Program (traineeship/internship) in Luxembourg at the Court of Justice of the European Union.
Who:
Open to American citizens and legal permanent residents only. Priority will be given to applicants who have completed three years of law school and who have a strong knowledge of Community Law.
When:
There are two possible periods for 2026-2027:
- Fall Term (mid-September to mid-December) less than 90 days
- Spring Term (mid-March to mid-May) less than 90 days
How:
Send the following application documents, in a single email, to [email protected].
- Application Form (Print and sign by hand, scan and submit the signed copy)
- C.V. or Resume
- Graduate and Undergraduate Transcripts
- One recommendation letter from a CLS faculty member
Application Deadline is Sunday, April 5, 2026.
A committee led by the European Legal Studies Center reviews the applications and forwards Columbia’s nominations (a maximum of three) to the U.S. Embassy in Luxembourg.
Financial Information
No U.S. Government funds are available to assist applicants chosen for Dean Acheson Legal Scholar Program. Dean Acheson participation is unpaid, and the Court of Justice of the European Union does not make any funds available to support Dean Acheson scholars. Dean Acheson participants are responsible for the full cost of their transportation, room and board while participating in the Dean Acheson scholar program.
No academic credit is given for the program, which is an unpaid clerkship.
