Advocacy Under Trump II: Countering Big Money in Elections

Oct 2025
27

In the fifteen years since Citizens United, we have seen the rising influence of super PACs and big money donors—including the so-called “broligarchy” of tech executives and billionaires—on politics and elections. Advocates in favor of campaign finance reform have pushed for donor transparency, public campaign financing, and legal interventions to minimize the unprecedented influence of wealth in elections. Join CLS faculty, legal practitioners, and campaign finance experts for a session on countering the influence of big money in elections at all levels of government.

Panelists include:

  • Richard Briffault, Joseph P. Chamberlain Professor of Legislation, Columbia Law School
  • Paul Ryan, Executive Director, New York City Campaign Finance Board
  • Ian Vandewalker, Senior Counsel and Manager, Elections & Government at the Brennan Center for Justice

This panel is part of the PI/PS Office’s three-part lunchtime series, Advocacy Under Trump II. Throughout September and October, we will be joined by faculty, experts, and practitioners to discuss First Amendment rights, voting rights and redistricting, and money in politics.
