28

All 3Ls must complete and record 40 hours of pro bono service in order to graduate from the Law School. As part of this requirement, you must take one of the following steps by Friday, November 28, 2025. Failure to do so will result in an add/drop hold being placed on your account.

If you have completed 40 hours of qualifying pro bono service:
Record your completed pro bono hours in LawNet. See instructions below.

If you have NOT completed 40 hours of qualifying pro bono service:
Submit your plans to complete your required hours to the PI/PS Office by emailing [email protected]. If you do not do so by the deadline, an add.drop hold will be placed on your account in January.

Please schedule a meeting with Assistant Director of Pro Bono and Summer Preparation Estelle Mitchell for guidance on your pro bono plans.

Final Pro Bono Deadline: March 1
March 1, 2026, is the deadline by which all 3Ls must have their 40 pro bono hours recorded LawNet in order to graduate in May. (There will be a slight deadline extension for 3Ls participating in a 2026 spring break caravan trip.) If you are planning to study abroad in 2025-2026, avoid the last-minute stress by completing your required hours prior to going abroad! Remote and/or international pro bono opportunities are very limited and can be difficult to obtain by March 1.

How to Record Your Completed Pro Bono Hours in LawNet

  • Find the organization at which your completed your pro bono hours using the "Pro Bono Search" feature on LawNet and submit an exit questionnaire and supervisor report.

  • If you do not locate the organization on LawNet, submit a student-initiated petition to have the organization added. Upon petition approval, submit the exit questionnaire and supervisor report.

  • Once both the exit questionnaire and supervisor report are approved, your hours will be recorded. Please note: submitting a student initiated petition does not officially register your hours into LawNet.
