Reading Group: Lawyering for Justice

Over the course of the semester, students will hear from a variety of CLS faculty members and practitioners who will discuss the key legal tools and approaches to advocacy they have employed throughout their careers as lawyers for justice, and those they find most effective in our current legal climate. The course focuses on a cross-section of key substantive issues, theories, and strategies for change-making through the law.

Through this reading group, students will gain exposure to top public interest and constitutional faculty at the Law School and cutting edge legal issues.

The role of impacted communities, the intersectional nature of justice-oriented advocacy, and the importance of collaboration will be themes in every session. Faculty and guest presenters may also address how changes in our courts, laws, or political environment affect approaches to advocacy.

This course will meet seven times over the semester and offer one (optional) opportunity - outside of regularly scheduled classes - for the group to come together socially.

This reading group is offered in partnership with the Office of Public Interest / Public Service Law and Careers, and is open to J.D. and LL.M. students regardless of their career plans.
