S. Trial Practice

This course covers criminal trial procedures and advocacy techniques, including jury selection, opening statements, direct examinations, cross-examinations, handling exhibits, objections, closing arguments, and proper courtroom demeanor. Using realistic criminal fact patterns and full trial assignments, students will learn how to become effective trial attorneys by conducting various classroom simulations and a trial at the end of the semester. The purpose of this course is to provide strong entry-level courtroom skills together with an understanding of effective preparation for trial. Students will develop the knowledge and skills necessary for effective trial advocacy through a combination of study, observation, discussion, and mock trial exercises, with helpful critique and feedback throughout the semester.
