Section Description

Drawing from a diverse range of legal and non-legal sources, this reading group will examine the ways
in which law is instrumentalized to (re)produce racialized structures of discrimination and injustice in
Palestine, in historical and contemporary perspective. Each session will focus on a different aspect of
Israeli domestic law, U.S. domestic law, or international law, as well as the interplay between the three.
Topics will include: the colonial legacies of emergency powers; the inhumane treatment of Palestinian
prisoners; surveillance, checkpoints, and citizenship laws as tools of population control; international
diplomacy; and the restriction of international aid & trade into Gaza and the West Bank, amongst others.
