Section Description

This course satisfies the J.D. Professional Responsibility requirement.

Not open to students who have taken another two- or three-credit professional responsibility course.

This course will explore the core ethical rules governing the legal profession through the lens of the criminal justice system. We will focus on professional responsibility as it relates to an attorney's duty to her clients as well as to the court, we will compare the rules governing defense attorneys with the rules that apply to prosecutors, and we will consider whether the legal ethics are, or should be, different in the context of criminal law than in other areas of practice.

Grading: Based on class participation and a final take-home exam.

This course also satisfies the LL.M. Professional Responsibility requirement for the California bar.
