University Leadership Transition

Dean Daniel Abebe shares news about university leadership with the community.

Dear members of the Columbia Law School community,

Last night, we learned of President Shafik’s resignation and of the Board of Trustees’ appointment of Dr. Katrina Armstrong as Columbia’s interim leader.

Although President Shafik and I only worked together for a short time, I am deeply grateful to her for inviting me to become part of the Columbia community.

I have been in close touch with Interim President Armstrong, who has expressed a strong desire to engage meaningfully with the University community as she begins her tenure. I appreciate her outreach and am confident in her commitment to the continuing success of the Law School and the University.

As we look ahead to the start of a new academic year, I know the Law School will continue to model the bedrock values of academic excellence, rigorous scholarly inquiry, and free expression upon which this great University rests. I look forward to supporting Interim President Armstrong as we move forward together.

Best regards,

Daniel Abebe
