Professor Tim Wu Appointed Special Advisor to NY Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman

Tim Wu, the Isidor and Seville Sulzbacher Professor of Law, writes about private power, free speech, copyright, and antitrust.  He also serves at Columbia Journalism School as Director of the Saul and Janice Poliak Center for the Study of First Amendment Issues. Wu coined the phrase “network neutrality” in a law review article, “Network Neutrality, Broadband Discrimination,” popularizing the concept that led to the 2010 passage of a federal Net Neutrality rule. He has made significant contributions to wireless communications policy and has written extensively about telecom and antitrust law.  His book The Master Switch has won wide recognition and various awards.

 

Mr. Wu has previously worked at the Federal Trade Commission during the first term of the Obama administration, and has also worked as Chair of Media reform group Free Press, and in the telecommunications industry. He was a law clerk for Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Richard Posner and Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer. He graduated from McGill University (B.Sc.), and Harvard Law School.

 

Mr. Wu will serve in the Attorney General’s office while on leave from Columbia.
