New York, Nov. 30, 2011—Richard Briffault, the Joseph P. Chamberlain Professor of Legislation and vice dean of Columbia Law School has been elected a member of the American Law Institute (ALI).
 
Briffault, a leading expert in election law, state and local government law, and property law, will join a distinguished group which includes eminent judges, lawyers, and law professors from all areas of the United States and from many foreign countries. Members are selected on the basis of professional achievement and demonstrated interest in improving the law.
 
In announcing the newly elected members, ALI President Roberta Cooper Ramo said, “Throughout its history, members of the Institute have been dedicated to clarifying and improving the law. I am confident that our newest group of members will help us fulfill that mission in serious ways, and find their participation to be professionally and personally rewarding.”
