Professor John C. Coffee Jr. to Address Annual Conference on Future of Securities Regulation

New York, Oct. 29, 2012—Columbia Law School Professor John C. Coffee Jr., a leading expert on securities law, will discuss the impact of the presidential election and politics on securities regulation as the keynote speaker on the first day of the Practising Law Institute’s Annual Institute on Securities Regulation.
 
Coffee, the Law School’s Adolf A. Berle Professor of Law and director of the Center on Corporate Governance, testifies often before Congress and is quoted frequently in the press about regulatory issues. His speech in New York City on Nov. 7, the day after the Presidential election, will be the keynote address on the first day of a three-day conference focusing on the state of securities, financial regulation, and corporate law and practice.
 
This highly regarded annual review of current issues in financial and securities regulation, now in its 44th year, features prominent speakers and attracts hundreds of participants from all over the country.
 
Other topics to be discussed at the conference include implementation and enforcement of the Dodd-Frank Act, changes to the process for initial public offerings of stock, disclosure requirements and practices, and developments in capital formation. Among the speakers are Preet Bharara ’93, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York; Judge Henry duPont Ridgely of the Delaware Supreme Court; D. Scott Tucker, global head of litigation for Morgan Stanley; Reid H. Weingarten of Steptoe & Johnson in Washington, D.C.; and Meredith B. Cross, director of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Division of Corporate Finance.
