Professor Jeffrey Gordon’s paper on independent directors was awarded the Egon Zehnder Prize by the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI).

“Independent Directors and Stock Market Prices: The New Corporate Governance Paradigm” was named the year’s best paper on company boards and their role in corporate governance. The paper, to be published this spring in the Stanford Law Review, links the dramatic rise in independent directors over the past 55 years to the increasing importance of shareholder value and to the greater informativeness of stock prices.

Prof. Gordon, the Alfred W. Bressler Professor of Law, will receive the Zehnder prize at ECGI’s next general meeting in Frankfurt, Germany, on April 19.
