Professor Arthur Murphy '48 Feted On the Occasion of His 90th Birthday

New York, March 1, 2012—Colleagues and friends gathered at a luncheon Jan. 24 to celebrate the 90th birthday of Arthur W. Murphy LL.B. ’48, Joseph Solomon Professor Emeritus in Wills, Trusts, and Estates at Columbia Law School.
After working as a litigator in private practice and with the Department of Justice, Civil Division, Murphy joined the Columbia faculty in 1963, teaching legal method, trusts and estates, and administrative law. He retired from teaching in December 2010.
“Arthur is a wonderful teacher and colleague who we’ve been lucky to have in our midst for so long,” said Gillian Metzger, Stanley H. Fuld Professor of Law and vice dean. Metzger organized the event.
Attendees included Murphy’s wife, Jean Murphy; Felice Shea, retired justice of the Supreme Court of New York and a member of the Law School’s Board of Visitors; Columbia Law School Dean David Schizer; Alphonse Fletcher Jr. Professor of Law Jack Greenberg; and President Emeritus of the University Michael I. Sovern.
