New Rreport Analyzes Foreign Direct Investment Trends Over Next Five Years

NEW YORK, (August 27, 2007) The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) and the Columbia Program on International Investment (CPII) will release World Investment Prospects to 2011: Foreign Direct Investment and the Challenge of Political Risk, during a press conference at Columbia Law Schoolon Sept. 5, 2007. The report offers the first authoritative estimate and analysis of 2006 FDI flows and presents forecasts for 2007-2011 globally, regionally and for 82 FDI host and home countries. It includes the Economist Intelligence Unit's Business Environment Index, which measures FDI determinants.
 
With a focus on political risk, World Investment Prospects to 2011 explores how the threat of terrorism and regulatory and geopolitical risks will shape future investment decisions. The report contains survey data from more than 600 multinational corporation (MNCs) executives on their investment intentions, their perceptions of various forms of political risk and its impact.
 
In the report, Jeffrey D. Sachs, Director of The Earth Institute at Columbia University, addresses emerging market political risk in the energy sector and how to address it. Laza Kekic, Director, Country Forecasting Services, Economist Intelligence Unit, analyzes key FDI trends to 2011. Karl P. Sauvant, Executive Director, Columbia Program on International Investment at Columbia Law School, explores the potential impact of FDI protectionism on global FDI flows. Matthew Shinkman of the Economist Intelligence Unit presents and analyzes the detailed results of the MNC survey.
