The Millstein Center Names Rising Stars of Corporate Governance for 2016

Award Recognizes Global Corporate Governance Professionals Under 40 Who Are Making Their Mark


The Ira M. Millstein Center for Global Markets and Corporate Ownership at Columbia Law School has announced the recipients of its eighth annual Rising Star of Corporate Governance Award. The award recognizes global corporate governance professionals under the age of 40 who are making their mark as outstanding analysts, experts, directors, managers, or advocates. The awardees were honored at the 11th annual Millstein Governance Forum on Dec. 7 at Columbia University. The 2016 Rising Stars of Corporate Governance awardees (pictured above, left to right) are:

  • Cambria Allen, corporate governance director, UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust
  • Richard Brand, co-chairman of Corporate Practice, Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP
  • Serdar Çelik, senior economist, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)
  • Aurelio Gurrea-Martínez, fellow of the Program of Corporate Governance, Harvard Law School
  • Miguel Padró, senior program manager, Aspen Institute's Business & Society Program

"For the past eight years, we have been identifying the leading young professionals who are working across the field of business to advance good governance and enhance corporate performance,” said Ira M. Millstein '49, founding chair of the Millstein Center advisory board.  “Their work has never been more important than it is today and I am delighted that the Millstein Center is able to recognize each of their contributions."

The 2016 Rising Star of Corporate Governance Award recipients were nominated by their peers and selected by a committee at the Millstein Center. The selection process is based on criteria such as past accomplishments and thought leadership, future projects and endeavors, leadership and character, and potential to influence the industry.
