New York, March 29, 2010—Audrey Strauss ’71, who heads the white-collar crime practice at Fried Frank, has received the Whitney North Seymour Award from the Federal Bar Council for outstanding public service by a private practitioner.
 
Council President Robert Giuffra praised Strauss for making “enormous contributions to the public good.” He said Strauss has “helped to combat child abuse and worked to build housing for the homeless.”
 
Strauss has served as a Vice President of the Council, a Board Member of the Legal Aid Society, as a Director of the Office of Appellate Defender and as one of the four members of the Legal Advisory Committee of the New York Police Committee.
 
While attending the Law School, was a Kent Scholar. After graduating, she clerked for then-U.S. District Judge Lawrence Price. From 1975-1982 she worked as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York and served as Chief Appellate Attorney and as Chief of the Fraud Unit. She joined Fried Frank as a partner in 1990.
 
Past recipients of the award, which Strauss received at the Council’s annual winter conference Feb. 27, have included Joseph H. Flom, John D. Feerick, Robert B. Fiske, Bernard W. Nussbaum, Kenneth R. Feinberg and Bettina B. Plevan.
