2019 Postgraduate Fellowships

Ashley Summers Dalton ’19 Awarded Equal Justice Fellowship sponsored by Greenberg Traurig, LLP at Youth Advocacy Foundation

Ashley Dalton '19
Undergraduate degree: B.A. in history from Yale University

Experience: Southern Poverty Law Center, legal intern, children’s rights practice group; Advocates for Children of New York, legal intern; Center for Educational Equity, legal intern; Center for Public Research and Leadership, teaching assistant

Motivation: “Before law school, I started a school-based legal clinic program along with a team of legal aid attorneys in New Haven, Connecticut. At Columbia, I participated in the Challenging the Consequences of Mass Incarceration Clinic and worked at several legal services organizations. These experiences and my longstanding commitment to criminal justice system reform have inspired my Equal Justice Works Fellowship project.”

Goals: “In Massachusetts and across the country, children who lose a parent to prison face significant barriers to receiving an appropriate education. My fellowship project will provide direct representation, outreach, training, and policy advocacy to improve educational outcomes for youth with an incarcerated or formerly incarcerated parent.”
