State legislatures, city halls, and county offices are already experimenting with generative AI usage. But who decides whether AI tools can be trusted with public work? And who answers when they get it wrong?

Join Columbia Law's own Professor Neel Guha, whose research examines why AI regulation so often misses its target and why legal AI remains largely untested, and Faiz Surani of Caldera PBC, who studied AI hallucinations in legal research before building AI tools for government agencies. Both worked on the 2023 publication "AI Regulation Has Its Own Alignment Problem: The Technical and Institutional Feasibility of Disclosure, Registration, Licensing, and Auditing" in collaboration with Stanford's RegLab. They’ll discuss what responsible public-sector AI requires, from testing and oversight to the crucial role of human judgment.

Please RSVP so we can order the right amount of food. Walk-ins are welcome, but food is not guaranteed.
