Apply for Financial Aid for 2026-2027
All admitted students applying for any type of financial aid must complete the Financial Aid Questionnaire. Students who plan on enrolling in the entering class and are applying only for loans should make every effort to submit the questionnaire by June 1.
PLEASE NOTE: Changes to federal student loans for the 2026-2027 academic year are available on the central University's Student Financial Services (SFS) website. As updates to the Federal Student Loan information become available, it will be posted on the SFS website accordingly.
Please refer to the Financial Aid website for our most current policies and procedures as well as forthcoming instructions on applying for student loans. You will also find budget guidelines and links to resources.
All Columbia Law School students borrowing any type of federal loan or Columbia University loan for the first time must complete Loan Entrance Counseling by August 1 to avoid delays for loan disbursement.
- Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan Entrance Counseling. All new students borrowing through the Federal Direct Loan Program must complete online Entrance Counseling for the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan Program at the U.S. Department of Education website. The Entrance Counseling explains your rights and responsibilities as a federal student loan borrower for the loan program. Your Direct Loan funds cannot be released without the completion of the online Entrance Counseling.
- Columbia University Loan Entrance Interview. If you were awarded a Columbia University loan, you can find the instructions for completing the Entrance Interview and the required loan documents for this loan program on Student Services Online. The university's Student Financial Services (SFS) division cannot disburse University loan funds to your student account until your Entrance Interview is received.
