Sylvie is currently the Deputy Director at the Federal Defenders of New York. She has also been a trial attorney in the Southern District since 2015, where she represents clients in all aspects of their federal cases, from presentment through sentencing. In 2023, she was part of a team that represented a client through the culpability and penalty phases of his federal capital trial. Prior to joining Federal Defenders, Sylvie worked at The Bronx Defenders, representing clients facing misdemeanor and felony charges in Bronx Criminal and Supreme Courts. In addition to her duties as a staff attorney, she was a supervisor for new criminal defense attorneys and served as team leader of an interdisciplinary team of advocates. Sylvie has taught trial advocacy at the National Criminal Defense College (NCDC), Defenders’ Academy, and St. John’s School of Law. Sylvie attended Columbia University and the UCLA School of Law, where she was a participant in the David J. Epstein Public Interest Law and Policy Program and served as President of the Moot Court Executive Board.
