Sarang Shah is a Fellow in Public Economic Law at the Center for Law and the Economy, Columbia Law School. He also possesses a doctorate in political science from the University of California, Berkeley. He writes about corporate law, business corporations, business leaders, money in politics, and political economy, with a particular focus on how corporations acquire, exercise, and are held accountable for political power. His research has been featured in the New York Times and the Washington Post, among other publications.
Shah received his J.D. from Berkeley Law and was licensed by the State Bar of California in 2021. Before pursuing law, Shah served as a data editor for a journalistic non-profit, translating campaign finance and lobbying disclosure data into investigative reporting, and as a writer for two technology startups. He was a Louis Brandeis Law and Political Economy Fellow at the Open Markets Institute and chaired the Law and Political Economy Society at Berkeley Law.
Prior to pursuing law and political journalism, Shah studied at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Trinity College Dublin, and the University of Cambridge, and conducted research at Technische Universität Berlin.
