Matthew Vidal is Senior Product Counsel at Google’s YouTube business, where he advises on compliance and strategic initiatives for the global youth business. His expertise encompasses children's digital privacy regulations (such as the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act), age-appropriate design codes (such as UK AADC and similar international frameworks), critical online safety codes (such as the EU DSA and the UK AVMS) and related laws covering youth on social media (such as state social media laws in the US), and global child sexual abuse material (CSAM) regulations. He also provides counsel and influences policy through direct engagement with global legislators and key opinion formers in the youth regulation space. Before his work at Google, Matthew served as Vice President of Digital Media at Paramount (formerly Viacom International Inc.), where he was a recognized expert in digital privacy and advertising regulations for Nickelodeon's extensive digital portfolio. He began his legal career in corporate securities at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP.
Matthew earned his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law, with a focus on transactional and regulatory law. He earned his B.A. from Columbia University, where he majored in Philosophy and minored in Spanish Language and Literature. He is very happy to return as a lecturer to his alma mater.
