Brence Pernell

Brence Pernell is a lecturer in law at Columbia Law School. His writing and research intersect race, education, and the law and have been featured in publications like the New York University Law Review, the Yale Law & Policy Review, and The Washington Post. He currently provides legal counsel to a large social policy and educational research nonprofit in New York City. 

Pernell earned an A.B. from Duke University; M.Ed. from the Harvard University Graduate School of Education; and J.D. from the New York University School of Law, where he was a Root-Tilden Kern public interest scholar, AnBryce scholar, and member of the New York University Law Review

After law school, he clerked for Judge J. Michelle Childs on the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina and Chief Judge Theodore McKee on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.
