Join us for a discussion on the broader economic and societal consequences of educational, employment, and other life barriers experienced by LGBTQIA+ people in Brazil despite important advances in the recognition of LGBTQIA+ rights. These barriers are not only questions of individual discrimination or human rights; they also have economic and social consequences. The World Bank's recent research on Brazil seeks to quantify some of these consequences, estimating the annual cost associated with exclusion based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sex characteristics (SOGIESC) in Brazil's labor market at R$94.4 billion - approximately 0.8% of Brazil's GDP. The research combines quantitative and qualitative approaches to examine labor-market outcomes, discrimination, and socioeconomic inclusion.
