Clinic Impact and Past Projects

Mediation is a voluntary and consensual process where the mediator acts as an impartial third-party facilitator. We serve clients in the Bronx Civil Court with cases up to $50,000, New York Small Claims Courts across all five boroughs, and federal employment discrimination cases through the EEOC. The clinic has also mediated community disputes involving Columbia University affiliates.

As a neutral third-party, mediators do not advocate or represent one client. Rather, mediators facilitate a conversation between both sides in hopes of finding an agreeable settlement for the parties. This means parties are in the driver seat and decide what is best for their dispute together. In a mediation we can:

  • Share information
  • Explore alternatives
  • Test solutions
  • Draft enforceable settlements
